Product Description

Take the guesswork out of your cooking and baking and enjoy meals cooked to perfection. This digital thermometer has a temperature range from 32 to 482 degrees F, will display in both F and C, and includes easy-to-use programmable settings, a 24-hour count up and down timer, alarm and large display. Useful for Candy & Oil as well. It's calibrated to the National Sanitation Foundation standards, the highest standard achievable, and accepted for commercial use, so it's extremely accurate. AAA batteries are included. *Temperature not to exceed 482 F. Doing so will deteriorate the wire. Not for microwave use.

If you've ever opened the oven door to check on a roast only to watch the heat escape while an "instant read" thermometer measures temperature, you'll appreciate this impressively-accurate, remote cable thermometer. Simply insert its high-heat stainless steel probe into meat, shut the oven door, and monitor internal food temperature on a large, easy-to-read digital display. You can even program an alarm to sound when food has reached a desired temperature. Predetermined settings are also available. This capability is especially useful for smoking, barbecuing, or any "low and slow" technique--eliminating the need to check on food and allow precious smoke to escape.

Unlike other remote probe thermometers, heat resistance makes this versatile tool ideal for candy making or deep fat frying. A special clip secures the probe to your saucepan. Plus, since the Proaccurate withstands temperatures up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit, you won't melt through several probes in the course of a year's cooking.

A magnetic back and folding stand let you store the thermometer on a counter or stove. A handy 24-hour count-up, count-down timer also functions solo to aid any cooking task. This commercial-quality thermometer is calibrated to the National Sanitation Foundation standards--the highest standards achievable. It runs on a single AAA battery, included with purchase. --Mary Park

Customer Reviews:

  • CDN Proaccurate Digital Programmable Probe Thermometer
After much research into these devices, I decided to purchase the CDN brand for my husband as a gift. I chose this brand since it had a higher temperature range than that of the other brands available. This one goes up to 482degrees. So far he seems to love this thermometer. It seems very accurate in reading the internal temp of the meats. He loves that it allows him to program what type of meat and for beef the taste(rare,m.rare,med,well). The cable connecting the device to the probe seems to be pretty strong--braided wire. I have seen other devices by other brands that the cables "burn out". This was one of the deciding factors in purchasing the CDN brand. My husband loves the magnetic feature that allows him to stick it to the side of the oven! I am also excited to see the thermometer comes with a clip for candy making and frying. I havent had a chance to use it for this purpose yet, but it makes the device much more versatile & useful. The temperature display is quite large and easy to read...so it will work good for someone who cant read small print. I would actually give this product 4 &1/2 stars. The only reasons I would deduct half a star are: 1)the casing is plastic (cannot use on BBQ)and 2)the timer beeper isnt that loud (you cant hear it if upstairs or more than a room away, so you need to stay in earshot to hear the timer go off). All in all its a great product. I would recommend it. Buy it and you will never have dried out or undercooked meat again. Its well worth it! The chef in your life will thank you!...more info
  • So far, so good!
I read alot of reviews on different thermometers and decided on this one. The probe looks pretty solid, and it works very well so far. I use it mainly on my gas grill....more info
  • HAPPY SO FAR
We've used this at the grill with steaks, in the oven with a turkey breast and on the stovetop to make candy. It's worked perfectly every time so far. I like that you can stick it to the outside of the oven and it beeps when the correct temp has been reached. A very useful kitchen gadget to have on hand!...more info
  • How do you turn it off?
Maybe it's just me, but I've had this for years, and haven't ever been able to figure out how to turn it off without taking out the battery. Am I supposed to just let it slowly run down the battery? Otherwise, it works fine for me....more info
  • Wonderful product--Recommend it to everyone
I am very happy with this thermometer. It is every bit as good as it looks. I timed my cooking indepenedently of the temperature alert to see if they were close. They were only off by two minutes, but I was confident that the meet was not under- or over-cooked. Yay Alton Brown who recommended it. ...more info
  • Digital Food Thermometer
I've only used this once since purchasing it. But, it helped me prepare a perfect Prime Rib! Easy to set the temp desired, and easily read display. My only complaint is that the alarm is a high pitched beep, and since I have a high frequency hearing loss, I can't hear it unless I'm standing right beside it. But, I can live with that.(I have been for 35 years!!)...more info
  • Not reliable
I had the exact same experience as B. Davis. Once again the thermometer worked great for a few months, then suddenly it went in the opposite direction with an over-read of about 30 degrees, ruining a batch of caramels. The next time I used it was with beef, and by touch I knew I had a thermometer problem. I checked it with two other thermometers and the difference against both of them was 28 degrees. I hope to get a replacement on warranty, but certainly don't believe it will hold up. Not having faith in your thermometer is worse than not having a thermometer at all. Stay away....more info
  • These work fine
I have two of these CDN dgital thermometers and they work fine. I liked the first one well enough that when I decided I needed a second unit I searched out an identical thermometer. Che temperature calibration is right on and the stainless steel shield on the long probe cable sems to work well. Highly recommended....more info
  • Just too delicate for normal kitchen work
When I was incubating yoghurt and or monitoring the temperature of some beer, the thermometer works fine. Of course, this is for temperatures below 140 degrees Fahrenheit.

When I tried to use the thermometer for making beer, it finally gave out. Having not used it in a few days, it currently reads 160 degrees. It's busted and I've only had it since January.

Some liquid was spilled on it, and the thing completely died. Ultimately, the battery was replaced, and the device was left to dry. It managed to recover from that, but it made me nervous.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from digital thermometers, but I would expect it could handling boiling water. I was using the probe to monitor some mash I was preparing for beer. That is what ultimately killed it.

This thermometer also advertises that it can handle candymaking. This might be true, but I don't consider fudge that tastes like carbon to be "candy." It just lags too much for candymaking, and it didn't accurately display the temperature of the warm, sweet liquid since the probe couldn't be kept completely imersed while I stirred.

I have to dig up the warranty and see if there's anything that can be done about this probe. I'm assuming I'm out of luck. I'd recommend looking into a more robust thermometer, if you can find one....more info
  • Time to Check the Warranty
The thermometer looks really good at first. Great range for candy making (unlike one of the more inexpensive models that Amazon sells) and reasonable wire length. For the past two months its been great. Then it suddenly gave poor measurements (based on salt free ice water, fully equilibrated, and salt free boiling water). It is approx 25 degrees below what it should read. So I'm sending it back. The unit comes with a 5 year warranty. We'll see what type of response I get.

Update: ended up getting a warranty replacement. This too worked for a while and then failed. Stay away...more info
  • The Turkey Was Cooked To Perfection
We bought this probe to help us monitor the breast temperature of our 18 pound turkey. This was our first ever attempt at cooking a Thanksgiving bird. The probe was easy to set up to alert us when the breast temp reached 165 degrees F. We cooked the turkey at 500 degrees F for the first 30 minutes, then lowered the temp to 375 degrees F for about 2.5 hours. When the probe beeped upon reaching the set temp, we took the turkey out. The bird was a hit--beautiful to look at and deliciously juicy. We did brine for 16 hours before roasting. I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 because I felt that the beeper could have been engineered to be louder than it was. We were watching a football game while the turkey was cooking, and we almost didn't hear it beep. Next use will be for the Christmas version of our turkey....more info
  • Turns out this is a $2.50-per-use disposable thermometer.
When I bought this thermometer I really wasn't interested in the "programmable" features. It's not that complicated. Stick probe in meat. Watch for target temperature to be reached. Remove meat from oven. And this unit accomplished that just fine, chirping when the desired temperature is reached.

The reason I bought this was to monitor temperatures without opening the oven door, pure and simple. And that's what it does -- but only for about 12 roastings, in my case, before it stopped giving an accurate reading. And not just slightly off, but wildly wrong. Busted. I've trashed it and gone back to my old fashioned, reliable, not programmable, open the oven door and peek inside, meat thermometer. Oh well.

  • Great while it worked
    ***Updated Review***
Ok, second and third ones lasted less than a year each as well. I'm finished doling out money for this piece of garbage. It's a good idea and I can't imagine why it can't be implemented in a way that would make it last for more than one month (unit number three) up to six (the first and second). These needs drastic improvement before it's worth spending money on.

    ***Original Review***
For the last six months I've loved this. It did it all. Unfortunately, it's now off by 75 degrees. I'll be sending it back on warranty but, regardless, pretty poor quality if it can't survive a year of basic kitchen use....more info
  • Great Little Gadget - Less Than Intuitive Operation
I got this a few months ago and I absolutely love it. It takes all the guess work out of cooking roasts. It's also replaced my egg-timer as my primary kitchen timer. The alarm is loud and constant; I have no problem hearing it from anywhere in my (admittedly not very big) home. I also love the fact that it has both a flip-out stand for putting it on the counter, and a magnet for sticking it to the fridge (or anything else suitably stickable).

My one complaint is that learning to use the thing took a little while. The buttons and controls are less than intuitive. Switching between modes, making sure the alarm is set, and getting it to let you set specific temperatures (rather than sticking to the FDA-approved meat doneness settings), all take a little finagling. If you're relatively gadget-savvy it probably won't be an issue. But if you're buying it for your grandma, maybe look for another brand....more info
  • Great kitchen must have
I bought this because I see them on the food programs all the time and thought I'd give it a try. Would NOT be without it ever!! Did a prime rib roast for first time and it was PERFECT!! Set to desired meat and temp, set alarm and wait. Very easy to use and good instructions. Magnet lets you put right on door. The cord is sufficient length but be careful when removing probe, use potholder. It gets hot! A must have for every cook!!!...more info
  • Worked well for about an hour
I liked it well enough but, like another reviewer here, I was using it to monitor a beer mash (water and barley at about 153deg.F)and it gave out after less than an hour. Without changing anything, the temperature suddenly went from 153 to 280. It read the air temp as 210. Kudos to Amazon for a very easy return procedure. I'll give the thermometer one more chance, but next time it is a refund for me....more info
